The Film Coach - Introduction

Hello and welcome to my brand new blog, where I will be offering simple and practical advice on how to write and then make an interesting, engaging and hopefully successful short film.

I’m Anthony Hett, a London based Welsh writer and director.

My trilogy of short films, exploring the themes of loneliness, old age and dementia, have screened at numerous film festivals big and small. My debut short film letters was nominated for Best Short Film at the Norwich Film Festival in 2015. My second short film waiting was nominated for Best British Short Film at the London Short film Festival in 2019. While my third film Scrable won Best Short Film at the International Film Festival of Wales in 2019 and both the Jury Prize and Audience Award at the 2020 Cell Adore Film Festival.

(If you haven't already). You can watch both letters and waiting, as well as a teaser for Scrable (full film online from Monday 21st September 2020) and also a short film poem I made called When we were foxes, on my website:

Originally from a small town in North Wales, I have been living in London for the past eleven years. During this time, I feel that I have learnt a lot about writing and directing short films (both through studying for an MA Creative Writing (Plays & Screenplays) and through making my short films) and I will be using both this new blog and my new YouTube channel, to pass on some of this knowledge to you.

With my blogs and videos, I am aiming to create short and concise content with simple and practical advice. It will be aimed primarily at inexperienced and first time filmmakers but I hope that it will be helpful to filmmakers of all levels of experience. The blogs and videos will be split into two series. Series One will look at How to write a short film and Series Two will look at How to make a short film.

With all blogs and videos providing value information on how to write and make successful short films on a small budget, I will be giving away lots of my hard earned secrets for free. However, if you are interested, I also offer 1:2:1 online mentoring sessions, where I can go into topics in more depth and I can give you advice and feedback specific to you and your project. If this is something you might be interested in, drop me an email via my contact page.

I think that’s all for now? I hope that you enjoyed reading my first blog post. You can watch my first YouTube video here and I will be back next Wednesday with a new blog (and video), on the topic of inspiration.
